Welcome to the Washington Capital Area's Premier Otology and Neurotology Practice that specializes in Hearing and Balance disorders. Established in 1983 by Dennis Fitzgerald, MD, Capital Ear Group offers comprehensive evaluation and management of Inner Ear and Related Structures Disorders, using the latest technology in Audiologic and Vestibular diagnostic testing, providing a wide range of medical and surgical treatment options, vestibular rehabilitation provided by National Rehabilitation Hospital Physical Therapy Department, and full service Hearing Aid evaluation, fitting, and dispensing.

Dr. Fitzgerald specializes in disorders of the inner ear and the nerves that carry information from the ear to the brain. These include hearing loss, vertigo, dizziness, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), neuronitis, stenosis, autoimmune ear disorders, Bell's Palsy, cholesteatoma, labyrinthitis, Meniere's disease, acoustic neuroma, tumors, and total deafness treatment with cochlear implants (Neurotology).
Dr. Fitzgerald also treats traditional disorders of the ear such as perforated eardrums, ear infections, mastoiditis, otosclerosis, perilymph fistula repairs, and reconstruction following ear surgery (Otology).

Although we treat many patients with simple ear problems, the majority of our patients are referred to us for more complicated conditions. Our patients range from infants to the elderly.

Dr. Fitzgerald is board certified in Otolaryngology and fellowship trained in Otology and Neurotology, he serves a number of professional organizations and medical societies including the Better Hearing Institute, The Deafness Research Foundation, American Academy of Otolaryngology, and American Neurotology Society, among many other organizations that benefit from his work.
Dr. Fitzgerald has authored articles for many scientific publications including American Journal of Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology, JAMA, Laryngoscope and American Family Physician. He is also a clinical instructor at the ENT Department at the Washington Hospital Center.
Capital Ear Group is affiliated with the Washington Hospital Center, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, National Rehabilitation Hospital, Georgetown University Hospital, and Children’s National Medical Center.
